Some single chip tuner IC already has a front-end amplifer (a kind of Low Noise Amplifier) build in. Some solution has an individual front-end amplifier which normally provides a better performance over the single chip. The main target of adding an extra amplifer in the front is to add extra reverse isolation. The amplifer stage has to be design to low-noise and not much gain (<8dB).
I suppose you build your own RF section. It's because if you buy a ready made RF tuner module, it should meet all the specification. What tuner IC's are you using?
